BUSD’s Invitation To Deliver An Inspirational Message:
Dear Community Member:
The Bellflower Unified School District Board of Education makes it a policy to invite individuals to voluntarily offer an inspirational message before the beginning of its monthly meetings. The purpose of the inspirational message is for the benefit of those in attendance and the Board of Education. As a member of the community within the District, you are eligible to offer this important service at an upcoming meeting.
If you are willing to assist with offering an inspirational message, please complete the on-line application, below. Respondents shall be scheduled for regular Board of Education meetings on a first-come, first-served, or other random basis to deliver the inspirational message. A schedule of speakers for the 2017 Board Meetings will be posted on the District website.
The opportunity to provide the opening inspirational message is voluntary, and you are free to offer the inspiration according to the dictates of your own conscience. To maintain a spirit of respect, the Governing Board requests that the opportunity to deliver the inspirational message not be exploited as an effort to convert others to a particular faith of the speaker, nor to disparage any faith or belief different from that of the speaker. If selected, you may choose to include a moment of silence with your inspirational message.
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution allows members of the community to exercise their right to speak and BUSD’s Board of Education will honor that right as allowed by law and to the extent the exercise of those rights do not infringe on the rights of others as required by existing law. The inspirational message and its content will not be censored and BUSD does not exercise any control over its content but does impress upon those that do choose to speak that this is an opportunity to inspire not only the Board of Education but also those in attendance and hope that each speaker will approach their message seriously and solemnly. The inspirational message should be no longer than two 2 minutes and you may be asked to lead those in attendance in the pledge of allegiance. The purpose and this policy is to solemnify the proceedings, encourage the community to participate in the democratic process, and to encourage their elected officials through the inspirational message to focus their attention and wisdom so as to make sound decisions that are best for all stakeholders of BUSD’s community.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated participation.
Sue ElHesson, Ed.D - President of the Board
Laura Sanchez-Ramirez – Vice President
